Just attended a couple of comedy shows at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. Seen Denise Scott and John Moloney. Very professional and funny in their own way. Well worthwhile going to see.
Next few days I will be seeing more acts with Sue. We chose comedians that are story based, have something to say with material based on truth.
It’s got me motivated to have another go at stand up. Only this time instead of having nonsense material I intend to write and perform something that has meaning and based on my own experiences. And hopefully funny. I’ll use the stage name of Chris Bee again because there is already an established professional comedian called Chris Bennett here in Melbourne.
I am looking forward to the challenge of performing in one of the most difficult areas of entertainment. However I’m not looking forward to performing for five minutes, late at night, unpaid, at an open mike night.
I might do some five minute stand up spots at open mike nights and then focus on developing and performing a twenty minute humourous presentation for organisations.
Usually Sue and I deliver paid professional presentations together and we both have plenty of experience doing this.
But in stand up I have little experience and no decent material, yet.
So if you excuse me, I’d better go and write something.

Go and see Troy & Zara in Happy Endings – story based and all too truthful!

Have a few comedians we are seeing in the next few days. Will keep them in mind, though.

That’s crazy that there’s another “Chris Bennett” that does comedy in Melboure, but not that crazy, I guess… cuz my friend Chris Bennett runs an internet marketing company in Utah called 97th floor.
I, too, have by a doppleganger named “Brett Borders” who is in a similar field – but he is a tremendously nice guy so it makes it all good.

That’s awesome! How did the little experiment go?
I am intrigued because I am thinking about stepping into stand up comedy myself and would love to get a perspective from someone who has done it before. :D

It’s been a while since I’ve written this post and since then I haven’t had the chance to have another go at stand up comedy – due to work and my writing projects. But I still have the urge to do so. If you decide to have a go, good luck. It’s a big challenge and I have a lot of admiration for anyone, regardless of talent, who take the plunge and stand up in front of an audience to try and make them laugh. I’m just a dabbler in stand up comedy and at the very least I’m happy that I had a go – even though I ‘died on stage’ several times – it’s all part of the learning experience.

Hey Chris,
I hope you do delve in to it again some time :)
Thanks for the wishes! And good luck to you too! :D
